About The Corner View
Combat sports through the eyes of a writer who watches what happens from the corner.
The Corner View is an independent combat sports publication by Ed Vidri, focused on what happens both inside and outside the cage.
I cover MMA and other combat sports from the perspective of someone who is often there in person: watching the fights, listening to the crowd, observing the production crews, talking to the people who make events happen, and paying attention to the details that rarely make it onto the broadcast.
That means you’ll find traditional event coverage here, but also stories about the machinery behind combat sports: production, media, venues, officials, announcers, promoters, and the people whose work is usually happening just outside the camera frame.
My reporting has taken me to numbered UFC events, UFC events at the Meta Apex, Dana White’s Contender Series, UFC BJJ, and regional combat sports promotions across Southern California and Las Vegas.
I contribute to The MMA Draw, where my work has included live event reporting, previews, and coverage of the business and people surrounding MMA. I work as a field reporter, too, delivering live interviews and event updates for Hey Not The Face!
I came to journalism after years of writing fiction and nonfiction and earning an MFA in Creative Writing. That background shapes how I approach reporting. I’m interested not only in what happened, but what it felt like to be there, who was involved, and what the small details reveal about the larger world of combat sports.
If something interesting is happening inside the cage, I’ll probably be watching it.
If something interesting is happening three feet outside the cage, there’s a decent chance I’ll be watching that, too.
Welcome to The Corner View.
